ARCADIS subsidiary, RTKL, is currently working at Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas, on a five-year indefinite delivery contract with the Army Corps of Engineers.
As part of the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) recommendations, Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) at Ft. Sam Houston, and Wilford Hall Medical Center (WHMC) at Lackland AFB will be consolidated into a new integrated operation called the San Antonio Military Medical Center (SAMMC) with North and South campuses. The program includes a 1 million SF addition/renovation to BAMC, a 146,000 SF renovation to WHMC, parking structures for 5,000 vehicles, and ancillary support and infrastructure. RTKL also created an all-inclusive master plan. BAMC is currently a world-premier burn and eye center and the only level one trauma center in the Army. The addition will include a state-of-the-art burn center and rehabilitation clinic, expanded operation room capabilities, a new emergency department, a new patient bed tower, as well as clinical and administrative spaces.
Evidence Based Design (EBD) features are being invested in the project including day lighting, larger patient and visitor areas, and healing gardens creating a more effective healing environment. The project is being designed to meet LEED® Silver certification.
