About the UN-HABITAT – ARCADIS Cooperation
UN-HABITAT, the United Nations agency for human settlements, and ARCADIS have launched a partnership aimed at a common goal: to improve the quality of life in rapidly growing cities around the world. We commit our employees, our expertise and skills to help bring the UN-HABITAT mission forward.
As our towns and cities grow at unprecedented rates, sustainable urbanization is one of the most pressing challenges facing the global community in the 21st century. A critical part of this is the improvement of the urban environment. As one of the world’s leading companies in professional services that improve the quality of life of people, we are well positioned to support UN-HABITAT to address this urgent challenge.
ARCADIS’ talents span the fields of infrastructure, water, environment, buildings and urban planning at the highest levels. The partnership coincides with our strategic ambition to play a meaningful role in our communities and to use our services and expertise in ways that positively impact the world. When we combine the global reach of ARCADIS and the humanitarian mission of UN-HABITAT, we can make a real difference all around the world.
Activities
The partnership between UN-HABITAT and ARCADIS focuses on two activities. The first is the participation of ARCADIS professionals in UN-HABITAT projects such as the recovery program for Haiti where we bring in our expertise. The second is transferring knowledge in urban planning and development by organizing seminars for city officials from around the world.
World Urban Campaign
ARCADIS is also a main sponsor of the World Urban Campaign, an initiative from UN-HABITAT designed to raise public awareness and to address the social, economic and environmental challenges of urbanization.

Shelter
Shelter—the basic protection from the elements or just a safe place—is something we all need to survive. But, in many parts of the world, a growing number of people lack this essential human need. That’s why we have given our initiative the name ‘Shelter’, creating a platform to make our partnership visible and tangible.
