August 31, 2011 – ARCADIS (EURONEXT: ARCAD), the international consultancy, design, engineering and management services company, announced today that it has been awarded a large contract by the Société du Grand Paris to provide geotechnical and technical advisory services for the Grand Paris Metro, a new 155 km automated metro line planned in Paris. ARCADIS estimates the contract value to be € 8 million.
The new metro line will circle the city of Paris and well over 130 km will be underground. The new system will feature a total of 72 stations and will interconnect with the existing public transportation systems in Paris, offering the Parisians the possibility to travel faster and easier from suburb to suburb and benefit from enhanced connections to the heart of Paris. The total construction costs of the Grand Paris Metro are estimated at € 23 billion, making it a project of national importance to France and the largest infrastructure project in Europe. The line is expected to be completed in 2023.
Under this contract, ARCADIS will lead, monitor and analyze the geotechnical investigations and define the geological and geotechnical models for the underground tracks and overpasses, including the stations. ARCADIS will also verify and validate the conceptual design of each section as proposed by various engineering companies. The present contract is expected to last 4 years.
